This summer I am a part of a team, participating in the Challenge for Hope rowing event on August 20th. This event is to raise money for those children who are unfortunately inflicted with diabetes. There are one in every 250-400 Canadian children living with type 1 diabetes. Therefore it makes it worthy to support a cause that touches so many children in Canada.

Children and youth living with diabetes face challenging and overwhelming obstacles every day. The daily lives for these children can be difficult and demanding on the children and parents alike. Once you acquire diabetes, you have no option but to live with it, manage it and control it?24 hours a day, 365 days a year?for the rest of your life.

Daily requirements include:

  •  Insulin injections four to six times a day to survive
  •  Pricking their fingers six to eight times a day to test blood sugar levels
  •  Extensive meal planning
  • Daily Exercise

Every donation counts and helps the Diabetes Hope Foundation move closer to achieving its vision of providing children and adolescents with the survival tools they need to achieve success in all areas of their lives to maintain good health in the years to come.

The rowing team of which I am a part, each have specific financial goals to achieve. My Goal is to collect $500.00 through your kind donations.

Thank you for considering my request.  I really appreciate it!

About the Challenge

The Challenge for Hope Rowing and Viking Festival is Toronto's newest rowing event brought to the community to raise awareness and funding for Ontario children and youth living with diabetes by 4 hosting partners ? Bayside Rowing Club, Diabetes Hope Foundation, I Challenge Diabetes and Toronto Police Service. This is the event?s inaugural year and will take place on August 20th at the Bayside Rowing Club along Toronto?s waterfront.  Our community event will be a public event open to all interested and will be free to attendees.

Proceeds from the event will support Diabetes Hope Foundation?s diabetes camp programming for children and youth living with type 1 diabetes.  With your support, Diabetes Hope Foundation will send at-risk and low-income youth with diabetes away to camp in 2012.
