Hello Friends!

On August 20th, I am leading a team of 15 police officers from 51 Division to row more than 16 km along Toronto's lakefront for the "Challenge for Hope" event to raise money for a most important cause.  Sadly, too  many Canadian children currently live with Type 1 Diabetes, I am proud to support a cause that will benefit many of our kids.

Growing up is not easy even in the best of times.  Children and youth living with diabetes face ever-more challenging and overwhelming obstacles daily:

  •  Insulin injections four to six times a day to survive
  •  Pricking their fingers six to eight times a day to test blood sugar levels
  •  Extensive and challenging meal planning

With Type I Diabetes, there is no cure.  There's no option but to live with it, manage it and control it 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for the rest of your life.

Your donation counts to move the Diabetes Hope Foundation closer to achieving its vision of providing children and adolescents the survival tools necessary to achieve success in all areas of their lives and to maintain good health.

Thank you for considering my request. Any donation - large or small - will make a difference!

About the Challenge

Challenge for Hope Rowing and Viking Festival is Toronto's newest rowing event dedicated to raise awareness and funding for Ontario children and youth living with diabetes. Partners: Bayside Rowing Club, Diabetes Hope Foundation, I Challenge Diabetes and Toronto Police Service will all be hosting this important event.

August 20th will be our inaugural event to take place at the Bayside Rowing Club.  It is free and is open to everyone.

Proceeds will support Diabetes Hope Foundation's camp programme for children and youth living with Type 1 Diabetes.  With your support, Diabetes Hope Foundation can send at-risk and low-income youth with diabetes to camp in  the summer of 2012.
